Hello, my name's Maria and I am an aspiring photographer and artist. I have created this page to showcase a selection of images from my recent photography work. I am passionate about themes that explore & express a human truth that is often hidden from view- either literally or in our minds, hence the title 'Hidden in plain site'. In today's modern world of ubiquitous social media, where people are increasingly concerned with projecting an image of popularity & success, I believe human invisibility and isolation to be silent provocations. Despite the perception of increased human connectivity, I believe loneliness and social isolation continue to be real issues which deserve our attention. For this series I have chosen to focus mainly on women from minority/underrepresented groups in society i.e. homeless, LGBT, disabled, & older women. I have captured them in their natural habitats with their faces not fully in view, and the presence of metaphorical barriers e.g. behind windows, walls, glass etc. to represent how women often hide themselves away. The majority of the images have been taken on 35mm film and developed in the dark room to give the desired effect.
